Founded in 2011 as a psychotherapy private practice, services have expanded to include clinical supervision for clinicians and consulting for private practice startups and established mental health/ healthcare institutions. La Shawn M. Paul, LCSW-R, ACSW
La Shawn M. Paul, LCSW-R, ACSW is the founder and lead clinician of Social Work Diva. She is a New York State licensed clinical social worker and recognized by the National Association of Social Workers as an accredited social worker. Ms. Paul has a B.A. in Social Work and Political Science from Herbert H. Lehman College (City University of New York) and her M.S. from Columbia University in Social Work with a clinical specialization in School-Based, School-Linked Services.
In her senior year of high school, La Shawn lost a friend to suicide. In that moment, she decided to pursue Social Work so that so that she could help women of all ages see their value and strength in times of turmoil and uncertainty. As a mother of a toddler, wife, and clinician, she understands the various challenges that modern women face as they juggle a multitude of roles and expectations, as they simultaneously attempt to excel as their authentic selves. La Shawn is a catalyst of change and Social Work Diva is her vision realized.
Throughout her academic and professional career, La Shawn has received a multitude of rewards and honors including a NYS Proclamation from the NYS Assembly for her fundraising and educational work with the American Diabetes Association. She has worked and provided consulting for an array of public and private healthcare and academic institutions in the NYC metropolitan area and remote locations throughout the United States. She is currently holds appointment as a Part-Time Lecturer and Field Liaison at Rutgers University - Graduate School of Social Work.
Social Work Diva provides individual therapy and coaching for the modern woman looking to tap into her inner “Diva". A diva by definition is a woman of excellence. It is our belief that every woman has the skills necessary to bring that inner excellence outward and through guidance in therapeutic process can live the life of her dreams. Our therapy services are offered online to accommodate the hectic schedule and lifestyle of our clients and can be accessed anywhere in the world through Skype and FaceTime. Evidence-Based, result proven practices such as Cognitive Behavioral therapy, a form of psychotherapy that is problem focused and action oriented, in conjunction with the Strength–Based perspective, a practice theory that emphasizes the resilience and resources of clients when faced with adversity, are utilized to meet desired goals and outcomes. Clinical supervision is provided to individuals and groups seeking to meet requirements of NYS licensure for the LCSW and the “R-Privilege.” Clinical supervision is also provided to clinicians seeking ongoing supervision post-license in New York State and throughout the United States. Clients meet with a NYS licensed clinical social worker to discuss clinical cases and dilemmas. Our clinicians provide guidance and clinical advice throughout the process. Documentation and records of supervision are maintained to ensure license requirements are met.
